Passado presente: Antoine Lilti e a atualidade  do Iluminismo

Resumo

Este artigo aborda a contribuição de Antoine Lilti à historiografia do Iluminismo. A partir da discussão de parte de sua obra, com destaque para seu último livro, L’Heritage de Lumières (2019), argumenta-se que essa representa uma renovação muito bem-vinda no campo, tanto em termos teórico-metodológicos quanto narrativos. Combinando as vertentes da história intelectual e da história social e cultural, Lilti articula uma interpretação do Iluminismo alternativa àquela da genealogia do liberalismo. Colocada a partir da perspectiva de uma hermenêutica crítica, e em diálogo com a crítica pós-colonial, a intepretação de Lilti procura responder à questão da atualidade do Iluminismo no mundo global e plural contemporâneo, no qual a modernidade ocidental perdeu a condição de modelo universal.
