Polyphony and consensus in the pages of the Jornal of IHGB: the question of workmanship in the process of consolidation of the nation

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the role of the Journal of IHGB, as a vehicle for a consensual approach according to the political assumptions and disciplinary committees established by thee valuative and the board of directors as paradigmatic. To achieve such consistency in their publications, the versatile members of the institute, now serving in parliament, now in the fortnightly meetings of the club, drew on the use of censorship, which generated a range of texts suitable for publication and other work not suitable molds to the Journal. The debate surrounding the issue of manpower was elected to demonstrate, so the polyphony daily from behind the apparent outward harmony. From the comparison between the minutes of the regular sessions, the original unpublished work and the Journal, it became possible to identify elementsthat reaffirm the political commitment of the Institute with the Empire, mainly because the story was plausible and pragmatic use of government actions expected to consistency.
